Hold Businesses Accountable | Support Black-Owned Businesses | Demand Economic Equity
In the wake of nationwide protests against systemic racism, corporations and institutions across the country—including right here in Ohio—made public commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Now, five years later, many are backtracking on their promises without ever delivering on them. As these businesses reverse course, it is time to hold them accountable.
The NAACP Black Consumer Advisory serves as a critical warning to Black consumers and allies about the deliberate rollback of DEI initiatives across industries. We urge you to:
• Spend your money where you are valued – Support businesses that respect and uplift Black communities.
• Invest in Black-owned businesses – Strengthen Ohio’s Black entrepreneurs and local economies.
• Demand corporate accountability – Urge businesses to keep their commitments and prioritize people over profit.
• Advocate for inclusive policies – Ensure equitable access to opportunities for people of color, women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and all protected groups.
Ohio’s economic future depends on fair and equitable business practices. Partner with other organizations who make an impact abd a commitment to all Ohioans. Your consumer power to drive change and push for the economic justice our communities deserve.
