A native of Kentucky who migrated to Ohio with the sole purpose of working with the incarcerated population. Charlsie earned a BA in Human Serves through Eastern Kentucky University and a BA in Criminal Justice through the University of Cincinnati and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Criminal Justice. Within the prison she facilitates multiple groups to assist the offenders with sharing their fears of being released as well as the challenges they will face securing both housing and stable employment.

 

She is also a Crisis Advocate and a Veteran Advocate, she uses both her careers to defend the rights of those impacted by intimate partner violence, sexual assault and human trafficking while working toward improving the lives of exploited women and children.Charlsie is a lifetime member of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice as well as a member of the NationalAssociation for the Advancement of Colored People. She is also a member of the American Correctional Association and a steering committee member of the Ohio Prison Art Connection. Other affiliations include Crisis Intervention Team member, Prison Rape Elimination Act Support Person and a Registered Advocate with Advanced Standing with the Ohio Advocacy Network. Through her volunteer efforts she has coordinated numerous programs and initiatives including Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday and Day of Service events, female entrepreneurship workshops, women’s leadership conferences, and voter registration. She strives to achieve equality and opportunity while eliminating systemic racism.
