The Goals of the Taskforce are to develop and execute the following items: 

To propose a National NAACP network, website, template of Best Academic Practice Models for Black students 
To present specific school districts/schools as Best Academic Practice Models for Black students 
To align thinking around the concept of Best Academic Practice Models for Black students 

ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES IN EQUITY
FOR BLACK STUDENTS IN OHIO

The Youngstown/Mahoning County Unit #3207 Template was used to identify the top ten Best Academic Practice Model Schools/Districts in Ohio.

Tangible

Unit presidents, education chairs, and strategic partners will have access to Best Academic Practice Models for Black Students.

Best Academic Practice Models for Black Students will provide a framework to align thinking around features of leadership and teaching strategies that get results.

Intangible

Best Academic Practice Models for Black Students will empower unit presidents and education chairs and give access to models of excellence to advocate on behalf of Black and all other children.

The Value Provided

Intrinsic

  • Knowing that Black excellence is achievable and provable when high expectations by all willing adults (based on historical and current data) ensure the necessary resources for rigorous instruction by effective teachers are in place and discriminatory barriers (de jure and de facto) are removed.
  • NAACP state presidents, education chairs, parents, guardians, and students will obtain information on high academic practitioners/practice model schools within each state and region.
  • Change the paradigm and conversation on low expectations, trauma, poverty, and the inability of low performing schools to achieve ABC academic levels when barriers are eliminated, verifiable trust established, and exposure to challenges are provided.

Extrinsic

  • Best Academic Practice Models for Black Students will help to align skeptics to mitigate challenges that inhibit Black student academic achievement. 

Recommendations

Reach consensus around the need to disrupt the status quo (or a need for dramatic change) with a greater sense of urgency

Establish a committed national team/staff on Best Academic Practice Models for Black students

Reach consensus of (characteristics/criteria) high/low academically performing schools/ districts

Replicate this Best Academic Practice Model process in Florida first – (using pre COVID-19 - 2019 data)
