George Freeman, Jr. Communications Chair

Biography

George Freeman is experienced in business management, union affiliations, politics and real estate spans over 40 years, and has created broad opportunities to work with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds and interests. Mr. Freeman is the former President of the Youngstown NAACP Branch. He was an active member of four (4) local unions. These experiences, as well as those associated with the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) and the Tenants and Welfare Rights Organization, enhanced and heightened his ability to interact effectively with all levels of the workforce, management and the community at large.

 

Past community organization affiliations throughout the years include: Warren Area Jaycees, Trumbull County Welfare Rights Organization, Warren-Trumbull Urban League Board of Directors, Black Elected Democrats of Ohio, Greater Youngstown & Trumbull Counties AFL-CIO Delegate, Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, the nationwide caucus of SEIU organizers – the Afram-African American Caucus, Trumbull NAACP, Youngstown NAACP, A. Philip Randolph Institute and Youngstown-Columbiana Board of Realtors). Notably, Mr. Freeman was appointed by Probate Judge Thomas Swift to serve as the Warren  Township Trustee. He recently served on the Board of WRTA, at the pleasure of the Commissioners of Mahoning County.

 

Prior to being elected Youngstown’s NAACP President, he served as Chair of the Education Committee.

 

He is the proud parent of three adult daughters and has resided in Youngstown for the past ten years.
